jole rider [pron. jolly rider]
send bicycles to African secondary schools.
The Bikes4Africa programme
Bikes come to jole rider from recycling centres, other charities
and individual donors. They are refurbished by volunteer engineers
and sent to Africa, 300 at a time, in a 40 foot sea container.
The bikes are donated to African secondary schools, as school assets,
and allocated by teachers to students with the longest walks to
school. When a student finishes his or her education, their bike
remains at the school, to be used by another student.
For African students, who often face a walk in searing heat of
10 miles - or even further - to get to school, a bike makes an enormous
difference
- not only to them, but to their communities and countries.
jole rider provide skills training, and establish bike maintenance
workshops, in African schools so that students and teachers can
maintain the bikes.
jole rider also work with secondary schools in the UK to promote
and develop links with African schools, through the Africa
School Linking programme.
Bikes
Getting bikes for the Bikes4Africa
programme is really easy! Almost every shed and garage in the UK
houses at least one which hasn't moved in years!
It costs £3,000 to send each shipment of bikes to Africa
- £10 for each bike.
£3 on average is spent on refurbishing each bike before it
goes.
Bike Donations

bikes.
We ARE responding to all e mails, phone calls and letters. However,
there is only so much we can do!
Why not help? There are plenty of opporrtunities to volunteer!
jole rider give priority to collecting and receiving bikes which
have their shipping funded by the donors [£10 for each bike]
or are
adopted by their donors.
Adopt-a-Bike
Just £3 a month - or more, if you prefer! - funds spares
and repairs for your bike in Africa.
