Schools Baton Relay - Primary Schools
A national Cycle Relay event connecting more than 600 British schools.
This is jole rider’s unique
School Linking event, themed around
bikes and Africa.
The Schools Baton Relay connects
with the curriculum:
Geography/History/Science/PE/Citizenship/PHSE/Global Education/Sustainable
Schools/Healthy Schools.
The Schools Baton Relay is a vehicle
for cycling activities and School Linking.It begins in John O’Groats
and, taking in Eden Project, ends at Land’s End : the End2End.
EveryRelay school is linked to another
along the End2End corridor.
Names of all Relay schools and riders
are passed within a baton, carried by Relay
riders from school to school.
The baton is received in celebration at Eden
Project on Friday 27 July 2007 and,
the next day, ends its journey atLand’s
End.
Schools can nominate children - with adult buddy riders - as baton
carriers for the final Relay stage.

Registered schools determine the Relay
route.
Early registration guarantees participation.
Add-on ideas:
- Bike Focus Day: cycling proficiency
and bike care instruction.
- Distance Cycle Ride: children, with
adult buddy riders, ride an off-road cycle route at a weekend.
- Virtual Bike Rally: symbolising
the distance to an African linked school: eg each lap of the
school grounds stands for 10 miles.
- Playground Based Relay: for year
groups or the whole school.
Events can raise funds for jole rider's
Bikes4Africa programme, or
any other cause. Why not take part to raise funds for a school project?
If riding for a cause other than Bikes4Africa,
all jole rider ask for is a contribution of £1 per sponsor
for the Bikes4Africa
programme.
