Schools Baton Relay - Secondary Schools

A national Cycle Relay event connecting more than 600 British schools.

This is jole rider’s unique School Linking event, themed around bikes and Africa.

The Schools Baton Relay connects with the curriculum:

Geography/History/Science/PE/Citizenship/PHSE/Global Education/Sustainable Schools/Healthy Schools.

The Schools Baton Relay is a vehicle for cycling activities and School Linking. It begins in John O’Groats and, taking in Eden Project, ends at Land’s End : the End2End.

EveryRelay school is linked to another along the End2End corridor.

Names of all Relay schools and riders are passed within a baton, carried by Relay riders from school to school.

The baton is received in celebration at Eden Project on Friday 27 July 2007 and, the next day, ends its journey atLand’s End.

Schools can nominate students - with adult buddy riders - as baton carriers for the final Relay stage.

Registered schools determine the Relay route.

Early registration guarantees participation.

Add-on ideas:

  • Bike Focus Day: cycling skills, tricks and bike maintenance instruction.
  • Distance Cycle Ride: keen students can ride a off-road cycle route at a weekend [students can involve buddy riders to boost numbers]
  • Virtual Bike Rally: symbolising the distance to an African linked school: eg each lap of the school grounds stands for 10 miles.
  • School Based Relay: for year groups or the whole school.

Events can raise funds for jole rider's Bikes4Africa programme, or any other cause. Why not take part to raise funds for a school project?

If riding for a cause other than Bikes4Africa, all jole rider ask for is a contribution of £1 per sponsor for the Bikes4Africa programme.
